Draymond and Steph Sound Off on NBA’s New Foul Rule

Changes are coming to the NBA this season that will benefit the game of basketball both fundamentally and aesthetically. Remember the days when players would steer clear of foul hunting, namely at the three-point line? Those days are coming back.

Per a new NBA rule instituted this season, offensive players will be prevented from drawing a shooting foul if they jump into a defender at an abnormal angle. The new rule states that “marginal” contact should be a no-call, while exaggerated contact should be ruled as an offensive foul.

Looks like that 15th and final roster spot will be coming down to Avery Bradley or Gary Payton II. No disrespect to Langston Galloway(who was recently waived by the Dubs, or Mychal Mulder (or even Jordan Bell for that matter), but they’re not exactly what the Warriors are looking for out of that role as the last reserve. The Warriors need a leader at the guard position, an energetic voice for the end of the bench, someone who is always ready and can be called at any time. A player who controls the flow of the game and the offense. A grinder who can get down and dirty on the defensive side. Bradley and Payton II do that exactly (and then some).

The big stories this season in terms of young guns aside from Poole’s Most Improved Player campaign will be James Wiseman’s return and second year, and Jonathan Kuminga’s adjustment to NBA-level basketball. Rather unsung in the discourse about the franchise’s future, however, is Moses Moody, the 14th overall pick out of Arkansas, who’s been catching some eyes lately.

Two Nuggets players converge to try and defend the shot, giving Porter the opportunity to kick it to the wing on his left for an open shot from… the greatest shooter alive. When asked about the play during his postgame media time, Porter Jr. gave the response that you want to see from a guy who just joined this team: “They left Steph wide open. For me? OK. But, Steph? You’re going to leave him open? Bad idea, buddy.”

Plenty of people were high on having a scorer as talented as Russell, now on the Timberwolves after the Andrew Wiggins trade, to shore up the team’s Kevin Durant-sized hole after his departure the year prior. Plenty of others were concerned he would be a massive defensive negative with not enough offense to boot, not even getting into his albatross of a contract. Whether you liked it or not, however, there was a period of time where D-Lo could have been the successor to Steph as the number 1 on the team a few years down the road.
