Preparing for Klay Thompson’s Comeback Season

In one of the deepest NBA drafts in recent memory, one of the least-surprising picks was the Golden State Warriors selecting Moses Moody out of Arkansas at #14. The team was long speculated to be interested in what a win-now two-way guard like Moody could do for them in the short term, and with Chris Duarte from Oregon (another name the Warriors were tied to ahead of the draft) going the pick before to the Indiana Pacers, Moody seemed like an inevitable addition. Moody’s a good two-way player, but he lacks shot creation or playmaking abilities beyond his catch-and-shoot capabilities.

Warriors Will Look to "Add A Few Guys" in Free Agency

The speculation and anticipation around the July 29 NBA Draft can now be put to rest – Golden State kept its No. 7 and No. 14 picks, selecting forward Jonathan Kuminga of the G League Ignite and guard Moses Moody from Arkansas, respectively.

Now, the Warriors have a team to build.

A few mainstays of the 2020-21 rotation have their statuses in flux. Kelly Oubre, whose Golden State career has been rocky at its worst and awkwardly successful at its best, is going to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming offseason.

There have been lots of rumors circulating the NBA that the Warriors’ front office is looking to trade their two lottery picks for a “star” player. While this might be true, it also might not be, especially with Marc Stein’s report this morning that a pre-draft trade is unlikely and a “step too soon.”

While I think Golden State will ultimately flip their picks or drafted players into either a star-caliber NBA player or an excellent NBA vet, it’s looking more and more likely that the Warriors will make their lottery picks, or at least one of them, on draft night.
