Mike Brown Gives Perfect Response when Asked about Klay Thompson and his Boat
Among some of the best Warriors stories of the off-season is All-star guard Klay Thompson’s Instagram live sessions from the helm of his new boat, which he seems to be very invested in. Klay is often seen out on the water, cruising around the Bay and interacting with his fans via the internet. He’s even brought his dog Rocco out with him a couple times.
Thompson’s spent so much time on the boat recently that he’s been using it to get around and go to practice, with the caveat that he had a misunderstanding of where to park his boat. Warriors associate head coach and Nigerian national team head coach Mike Brown recently went on 95.7 “The Game” and, in an interview, recounted how he got Klay Thompson a parking spot.
“He was parking his boat anywhere” said Brown during the interview. “I’m like, ‘dude, you can’t just pull up and park your boat anywhere.’” Eventually Brown managed to get Thompson a spot at the loading ramp where people usually take their boats in and out of the water, using a few connections he had with some of the Port of San Francisco personnel.
The Chase Center is right near now-Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, which is right on the marina. McCovey Cove has often been a popular spot for boaters to try and catch home-run balls from, a time-old tradition that has caused some hilarious viral clips. Thompson himself was spotted doing the same in his new method of transportation, watching the first few innings of a Giants game from the bay before heading into the stadium for the rest of it dressed quite characteristically like the main character of a movie that’s trying (and unfortunately failing) to look super inconspicuous.
Thompson’s antics are often an indication of his demeanor and the light-hearted yet hard-working energy he brings to the locker room, something that has a resounding effect on members of the coaching staff like Brown and other players alike: There’s just something about a player initially brushing off the parking ordinances in San Francisco, just like the rest of us, that make them that much more likable. The elite swingman seems to be in high spirits as the season opener and his return to the court later on draws closer. Warriors fans can’t wait to see him back on the court, ripping ridiculous 40-point games on ten or fewer total dribbles and bringing back that energy the team has missed from him so sorely.
