Steph and Curry Family to Participate in ACC Golf Tournament
Steph Curry is really good at basketball. It seems to run in the family, as his brother Seth currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets, and their father Dell had a good career mostly with the Charlotte Hornets. Off the court, however, it’s become well-known just how much Steph likes to golf, and apparently his family does too. The Currys will be returning to the celebrity golf scene this year at the American Century Championship in California’s Lake Tahoe.
The two-time MVP and 4-time NBA champion will return to the green with his brother and father, joining a slew of professional athletes, some who have participated before and a few newcomers. For Steph, he’s been a veteran of the tournament almost as long as he’s been in the NBA: This will be his 10th year competing in the charity event, usually finishing in or around the top-8. This year, he has some solid 12-1 odds to win the tournament.
Athletes aren’t the only ones out at the ACC, however. Various other celebrities - mostly from the entertainment industry - are slated to participate, totaling up the field to 80 participants. The tournament takes place over three days, from July 8th to the 10th, with each day including a full 18 holes for a 54-hole tournament for each participant.
The ACC has raised a lot of money in the past for charities which the athletes play for, totaling up to around $6 million since its inception in 1990. Last year’s winner was former NBA player and coach Vinny Del Negro, the only hooper to win the tournament. Curry and his family will look to replicate that success, with Steph having finished in 4th place three times. It could be another trophy for the cabinet this year after his performances in the NBA Finals (earning him a Finals MVP award) and the NBA All-Star Game (where he dropped a record-high 16 threes and won the ASG’s Kobe Bryant MVP award).
The ACC Tournament kicks off on Friday, July 8th at 4:30pm. Other NBA participants will be Bulls guard Alex Caruso and Heat guard Kyle Lowry, as well as two Hall of Famers in Vince Carter and fan-favorite Charles Barkley.
