Steph is the most-viewed player across all the NBA’s socials
After Ja Morant’s spectacular 52-point performance the other night, the NBA Communications team tweeted out that the Instagram video views for that game were at an all-time high. But Morant has driven 385 million views on all NBA socials this season, only good enough for the number three spot. Who are number one and two you might ask? Well coming in a not so close second place is Lebron James at 402 million views, no surprise there, many would argue he should be in the top spot too. The number one spot belongs to none other than the face of the NBA himself, Steph Curry who has an astonishing 674 million views across all social media outlets for the NBA.
He also is featured in the second most-viewed NBA Instagram post which is a video of him and Klay finally getting to share a pregame ritual together for the first time in two years.
But the views Curry draws in don’t just account for Instagram but all social media. And he leads by 200+ million views, an insane gap if you really think about it. He just has a natural ability to draw in views for the NBA because of how insane he is on the court. Whether it be crazy pregame shootarounds where he literally can’t miss or him pulling up from the logo and not even looking at the shot go in, the list goes on and on. Day in and day out fans choose to watch what he does because of how easy he makes it look and how crazy it might seem to them that a 6’3” point guard is dominating a league where the average height is 6’5” and up.
Factor in that this season has been one for the history books for Steph as he has broken multiple records and helped to lead the Warriors to the number two spot in the West. So, it may have propelled the number of viewers as many fans may have been eager to watch him break Ray Allen’s three-point record in MSG. Or were in disbelief when he put on a show during the All-Star break and hit fifteen threes. The keyword is disbelief, as many Instagram clips that are the most viewed show a player doing something that catches the viewers' attention. Most times because it is inhuman or just defies what we are used to seeing on the basketball court. That is why Steph, Lebron, and Ja are in the top three in terms of viewership as every time they step on the court something spectacular usually follows.
The number of people tuning in could be a bit daunting if you are a star, but all three guys know what they need to do to get the job done. All eyes will be on them as they all compete for a chance to bring home a championship as we inch closer to the playoffs in April.
